M. Müller & Sohn Magazine 07-08.2020

The magazine specialized in fashion and pattern making is issued ten times a year as a turnaround edition with topics on women’s and men’s fashion. The magazine is available in english language as a download. Each issue of the M. Müller & Sohn magazine contains an enclosed sewing pattern.

On the ladies fashion pages we show styles with smocked details. So far we found smock mostly only on baby clothes or folkloric blouses and dresses. But more and more often smocked pieces are also seen on the catwalks of Haute Couture and Prèt-a-porter. The traditional handicraft technique is now being interpreted in a modern way. You will find matching instructions for smoking in the following. Starting on page 8 we introduce the project Jennifer Keusgen, which deals with the unused potential of fabrics. The designer creates textiles that help us to feel more comfortable, thus creating added value and a new dimension for the further development of fashion. In the pattern technique we give instructions for the pattern construction of riding clothes for tournament riding. Furthermore, you will find tips and tricks for correcting the fit of trousers. Marion Vorbeck writes about the power of traditional costume and the effect of an october-free year on traditional costume fashion on page 22. Afterwards you will find instructions on how to remove cuts from finished clothing. The perfectly fitting trousers, the flattering skirt or the chic blouse – everyone has at least one piece of clothing hanging in their wardrobe, which they love to wear frequently. The cut of a finished garment can be “stolen” or removed quickly and easily with the right accessories and good technique. In the interview starting on page 26, costume designer Andy Besuch talks about the crisis as an opportunity for change and also explains why this professional group needs to dare more exchange.

The menswear pages show cool utility wear: trousers, vests, dungarees and jackets in workwear look come with various patch pockets, flaps, buckles, button plackets and zippers. Then we introduce the Spanish brand Ecoalf. The fashion label uses plastic waste from the ocean as a resource and uses it to create simple, timeless fashion. In the pattern technique, we show two jackets, a vest and a pair of utility style trousers to match the fashion pages. Starting on page 19, we look at the topic of categorizing and generalizing people and the inequality of opportunity in the fashion world. Following you will find a portrait of the Sigmaringen Fashion School. The school is one of the few schools in Europe that also trains students to design fashion and to master all production steps. The school combines traditional craftsmanship with the latest digital technology. In the interview starting on page 23, the South Tyrolean tailor Hannes Senoner tells how, after graduating, he went on a long journey with his master craftsman’s diploma in his pocket to look over the shoulders of tailors from various countries. He talks about why the will alone is sometimes not enough and which challenges he met on his way. Finally, you can read in the article “Sewing needles from the Stone Age” how and when the invention of the sewing needle took place.

The enclosed pattern contains three shorts for ladies (in sizes 36 – 46).
