M. Müller & Sohn Magazine 03-04.2024

The magazine specialized in fashion and pattern making is published six times a year as a turnaround edition with topics on women’s and men’s fashion. The magazine is available for download in English. Each issue of M. Müller & Sohn magazine contains an enclosed sewing pattern.

On the designer look pages of women’s fashion, we show models from the spring haute couture shows. We have selected two particularly detailed trend themes: fashion creations decorated with refined craftsmanship in a deep-sea atmosphere and outstanding designs with a mystical, sometimes dark side, retro silhouettes and surreal looks. We then introduce Emma Cope. The British tailor skilfully creates menswear and womenswear in her atelier in the West Midlands, creating luxurious bespoke garments to the highest Savile Row standards.

From page 12 onwards, Barbara Pesendorfer takes us on a journey into corsetry. She is an expert in this field like no other and gives us an insight into her valuable expertise. This even live and in colour at our vocational school in Hamburg in the form of the special seminar: “KK – pattern construction & production of a corset”. In addition to the key data, there is also a short question-and-answer teaser.

In the pattern technique, we will be focussing on waistcoats in plus sizes. We show the basic waistcoat pattern in size 50 and the pattern development of a classic single-breasted model with slanted darts and welt pockets. We also show the development of four more freely interpreted waistcoat styles.Then you can read all about moiré, the elegant fabric with the magical pattern.

On the menswear designer look pages, we show exciting trends on the subject of slim fit. For the following portrait, we met Egon Brandstetter in his Berlin tailoring studio and hear about turning points in his company, his visit from Hollywood and his advice for young self-employed people.

In the pattern technique section, we show the grading of a jacket with dividing seams. You will also find the constructions for four different button plackets on a men’s shirt in the specialist section. We then present a carefully curated selection of tools, ingredients and materials for the fashion industry and the craft of dressmaking. Here you will find the best tailoring tools.

From page 24, Rosa Marga Dahl and Jacob Langemeyer, founders of SF1OG, give us a look behind the scenes of their fashion universe. It’s not just their passion that they have in common, but also the realisation that there has to be a business counterpart to their creative and artisanal work in order to successfully realise their visions.

We also talk to photographer Martin Josef Smolka about reportage, which he pursues together with photographer Tommi Aittala and author Bernhard Roetzel. The team is just as enthusiastic about craftsmanship as M. Müller & Sohn. With their passion for bespoke tailoring, they have made it their mission to make personalities from the industry more visible and to tell stories about unforgettable encounters.

The enclosed pattern contains three women’s Bermuda shorts in sizes 36 to 50.
